Meet the artist.

Laura Joy Robertson is the artist and founder behind Popple’s Tales based in the North East of England.

Laura’s style focuses upon characters, expression and fun, with a lot of the creations being driven by the styling of the character.

Often inspired by naturally occurring patterns and shapes , Laura finds faces and characters within many areas of her life, especially in light and shadows.

Although Laura has dabbled in education she is primarily self taught and continues to expand her knowledge and skills base as she adds new creations to her body of work on a yearly basis. Laura is currently developing her skills in puppetry to allow her characters to truly take centre stage!

Laura began with a love of sketching which soon developed into creating illustrations through a desire to create a narrative to each of her pieces.

Stories came naturally as part of her creations and each side of the process began to fuelled each other equally until stories for books and productions became the purpose of her work.

Laura now creates children books and shows for both community projects, individuals and books to support her own mini theatre productions.

The Studio

Popple’s Tales resides at CreativePop’s art studio in the wonderfully lit and inspirational Shoreside Studios at LightHouse view in Seaham. The outdoors, nature and the sea are all key features to the studio and sit nicely together with Popple’s work!

Laura is also a Co director of CreativePop CIC who specialise in site specific installation pieces, working with communities to bring art and connectivity to the location. To visit CreativePop please see HERE.
